Part One

Common Core Examination Blueprint

The 40-question Common Core assesses shared professional foundations required across GAOCPC certification pathways.

Common Core Domain

Biblical Foundations

Christian worldview, Scripture, pastoral identity, compassionate spiritual care, prayer, dignity and responsible faith integration.

Common Core Domain

Ethics & Accountability

Consent, confidentiality, boundaries, safeguarding, records, referrals, truthful representation, complaints and professional responsibility.

Common Core Domain

Responsible Care

Listening, grief support, trauma-informed care, crisis response, cultural sensitivity, professional limitations and appropriate referral.

Common Core pass standard: 75%. The submission itself does not unlock the specialty assessment. The official Common Core result must first be recorded by GAOCPC.
Part Two

Assigned Specialty Examination Blueprint

The 20-question specialty assessment focuses on competencies relevant to the certification designation assigned to the candidate.

Specialized Knowledge

Knowledge appropriate to the approved counseling or chaplaincy designation.

Applied Judgment

Scenario-based decision-making, safe responses, ethical reasoning and responsible care.

Professional Boundaries

Scope of practice, referral requirements, confidentiality and designation-specific limitations.

Institutional Practice

For applicable chaplaincy pathways: interdisciplinary awareness, institutional policy, spiritual care and professional conduct.

Counseling Practice

For applicable counseling pathways: helping relationships, care planning, pastoral support, documentation and responsible referral.

Advanced Leadership

Board-level designations may include governance, supervision, risk management, complaints, accountability and leadership judgment.
