Global Association of Certified Pastoral Counselors (GAOCPC)

1. Purpose

GAOCPC examinations verify that candidates meet established standards of theological knowledge, ethical integrity, and applied professional competence.

2. Eligibility

Candidates must submit an approved application and verified credentials prior to examination scheduling.

3. Examination Format

  • Online or supervised examination format
  • Timed assessment
  • Multiple-choice questions and case-based responses
  • Ethics, counseling, chaplaincy, and professional judgment sections

4. Candidate Responsibilities

  • Uphold the GAOCPC Code of Ethics
  • Complete examinations independently
  • Avoid misconduct, plagiarism, or unauthorized assistance
  • Submit accurate personal and candidate information

Examination Standards

The examination process is designed to protect fairness, confidentiality, accountability, and professional certification integrity.

Theological Knowledge

Assessment of biblical understanding, Christian worldview, pastoral identity, and spiritual care responsibility.

Ethical Integrity

Assessment of confidentiality, boundaries, professional conduct, documentation, and ethical decision-making.

Applied Competence

Assessment of pastoral counseling, chaplaincy response, grief support, crisis care, referrals, and client safety.

Examination Policies

Candidates are expected to understand and follow all examination requirements before beginning the assessment.

Eligibility Application and credentials must be reviewed before exam access. Submit complete and accurate documentation.
Exam Access Examination may be online, protected, or supervised. Use only authorized access credentials.
Exam Integrity Unauthorized assistance, copying, or plagiarism is prohibited. Complete the examination independently.
Scoring Responses are reviewed using competency-based standards. Provide clear, professional, and complete responses.
Results Results may be released within 14–21 business days. Monitor email and respond to any follow-up requests.
Appeals Appeals must be submitted in writing within 14 days. Use the official Examination Appeals Form.

Examination Integrity

GAOCPC maintains a serious commitment to ethical and honest examination conduct.

Misconduct May Include

  • Copying answers from another person or source
  • Using unauthorized materials during the examination
  • Sharing examination questions or answers
  • Submitting work completed by another person
  • Misrepresenting identity, credentials, or eligibility

Possible Outcomes

Violations may result in examination disqualification, denial of certification, disciplinary review, or permanent ineligibility.

Candidate Notice

Completion of the examination does not automatically guarantee certification. GAOCPC maintains independent certification review, ethics screening, competency evaluation, and final approval procedures.
